Animals in climate-related music
Dr. Susanne Heiter, Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg
Geeignet für:
Berufstätige, Hochschule, Interessierte Öffentlichkeit, Kinder und Jugendliche, Politik, Senior*innen, Studierende
Animals have been present in human music since the Middle Ages, primarily in the form of representations, both metaphorical and sonic. Since the 1970s and the rise of the environmental movement, musicians have been engaging with live animals or working with recorded sounds to reflect on questions of hierarchy, hegemony, extinction and biodiversity loss. In this session, students will present examples of ecological sound art and music to encourage discussion of these issues.
